This is where you end up when you try to be super creative..Well, it’s in the designers nature that they want to be creative..only..the Web is not good place for it (try fashion industry, hehe)..It is impressing to see how many people put so big effort to create web sites like these..But people don’t want to be impressed by it..they just want to use it.

Naturaly, I would also like to have web site different (non-conventional) from others..but I guess it would be just for my own harm.

I didn’t even think about PDF files as being annoying to users.. but they always, little, bothered me..Funny to find out that it wasn’t just my feeling.

Opening in the new window..I’m sorry but I would definitelly open links what point to other websites, separately functioning, in a new window..but of course, I wouldn’t use this method to navigate within my website.

I knew about grouping objects from other applications, so I liked that this idea is in Fireworks also. Trimming canvas without cutting of any objects is also handy feature.

I loved how easy these hot spots/maps can be done and linked in DW.. how tedious work it was for me to find the proper coordinates to place them in html code..Thank you for making my life easier:)

I found browser trend chart informative, despite that it’s from 2004 and 2005, the growing trend towards IE could be guessed for following years. But we still can’t create pages just for IE(or can, that’s personal choice), there are the other browsers and that’s why I would defenitely use layout based on percentage of screen real estate.

It’s really hard to work with “restricted” availability of web-safe fonts. I think fonts can express a lot, as how the site should “feel” to the visitor..the same way like colors, layouts. I hope this will change soon, so we can be creative not just with colors, but also fonts.

That’s were  those 40 colors went..by eliminating them from palette, it can be used for both platforms.  

It’s good that palette is built in design developing/editing softwares, so it can be easy to use for designing web pages.

It was nice to find out that Fireworks has similar interface and tools as photoshop, and using photoshop in previous semester made me comfortable working through first chapter.

I personally liked viewing Win/Mac gamma.. If photoshop has that option, I never used it..

Problem: did two folders with website files (one was about Ass02 and other we created in the class for Ass03)in one root folder CAT274

It looked easy once we started to do it in the class, but when I switched computers to finish and FTP, the other comp remembered my previous website folder(Ass02) under root folder CAT274! The program was “confused”, couldn’t put files on the remote site. Then I switched computers and navigated to that one website folder, and it seems to work..

So, do we supposed to do all pages throughout this class in that one “website” folder which is in the root folder CAT274?

To start with..it was big jump into “DW usage” as I never worked with it, that’s why people who already worked with DW 8 had probably more from this seminar..but I did catch something.. number of layouts to choose from, making new templates for future with just some editable parts on the site, CSS panel displays features what change according to different parts of site, and if any changes are done, they are right away displayed under CSS. When CSS was already made f.e. by handcoding, it can be simply attached. The code view is fully commented, which is great and easy to understand and that way easy to do changes. “Drag and drop” things made in photoshop, and for later editing, just use edit button in property inspector, what will load it again in photoshop.

Good  to know that fireworks is more web-friendly than photoshop for optimizing picture sizes, creating buttons, etc.

Spry demos were fast, too much info for me, showing/updating different images/news without refreshing site, because it is HTML with JavaScript, not a flash movie..It was interesting so I’m hoping to learn more about it..

If there is any bug when the site is checked in browser, there is also bug description and option to “view the solution” for this bug.

So as I wrote, a lot of information at once for somebody like me, but this problem will be solved by CAT 274.
